Our mission and vision

Our mission is to understand complex social issues associated with globalising processes through innovative, mixed-method multidisciplinary research. Our focus is on sharing our research through practical channels, engaging in partnerships and supporting high-quality researchers and doctoral students. We’ll contribute to knowledge construction and influence research developments, public debates and policy agendas.

Our vision is to be a leading international social sciences and humanities institute. We want our knowledge creation and dissemination to meaningfully affect lived human experiences by actively shaping agendas and informing debates.

Our strategy

Global events such as the COVID-19 pandemic, the Russia-Ukraine war, the re-emergence of far-right ideologies, the continued political instability and conflict across many regions, climate change, and the persistent racial injustices and economic inequalities affecting the global community – all of these critical issues underscore the urgency, importance and relevance of the intellectual work done by Deakin Institute for Citizenship and Globalisation’s researchers and the challenging policy questions they strive to answer.

Engaging with and responding to these major challenges of our time is rarely a straightforward task. It requires an approach that involves multi-level, cross-sectoral partnerships as well as multi and inter-disciplinary methodologies that can deliver transformative knowledge that are at once socially impactful and academically significant.

I invite you to review our Strategic Research Plan 2022–25 which outlines what the Institute aims to deliver over the next few years as a major research pillar not only at Deakin University but also nationally and internationally.
